Ger graduated from the National University of Ireland Galway in 1983.
From 1983 to 1998 Ger worked in the UK and Ireland in progressively more senior site roles, on major civil engineering works including Road Works, Bridges, River Drainage, Urban Drainage, Wastewater Works, and drinking water treatment and supply.
In 1998 he joined Ryan Hanley as Project Manager on water services projects, and introduced advancements in project management generally, including quality management and health and safety management.
From 2003, he led the Ryan Hanley Water Conservation and Network Management Division, and grew this to become the leading Consultant in Ireland in that field.
Ger lectures on the Project Management of Civil Engineering Works at the School of Civil Engineering in the National University of Ireland Galway.
He became a Director of Ryan Hanley in 2004 and in July 2008 succeeded Michael J Gannon as Managing Director.
