Michael graduated from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 1977 with an honours degree in civil engineering. He worked on site on major civil engineering projects for 12 years and has brought his practical site experience to bear on his work since joining Ryan Hanley in 1989.
As Director in charge of the water services section he is responsible for all work created by his department. He has particular expertise in the process design of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment systems and potable water systems.
Michael has presented a number of papers to Engineers Ireland and was awarded the Engineers Ireland Presidents Prize in 1999 and the Smith Testimonial Award by Engineers Ireland in 1997 for published papers.
Michael lectures annually on hydraulics and pump design at the Department of Civil Engineering at the National University Ireland, Galway.
